Thinking outside AI

In a world where machines can do more and more, what do we want to keep doing ourselves?

OutAI is an independent publication exploring what remains meaningfully human in the age of artificial intelligence.

Most conversations ask what machines will be able to do next

We start somewhere else.

Artificial intelligence now writes, draws, composes, translates, decides and reasons alongside us. That is not in dispute and it is not going to reverse. What is still open is which of those things we want to keep doing ourselves, and why.

That question has concrete edges, and they are worth working on. Who decides what counts as human authorship. What is lost when a task is automated well. Which forms of judgement we should refuse to delegate.

We are not against artificial intelligence. We are against not thinking about it.

Where the work sits

The Human Provenance Project examines who is certifying human authorship, under what criteria, and what those criteria actually verify.
